Gou is companion of human being for thousands of years now. For the same reason, we believe that a house is not complete without Gou Mata. Both science and religion agree on one point – that Gou’s milk is essential for humans. Traditionally, we have all grown up with Gou.
In the changed circumstances of today’s social set up, co-existence with Gou is a tough task. Villagers are increasingly made to believe, albeit wrongly, that maintenance of Gou is not profitable. In the cow-sheds of villages where tens of Gous used to be reared, today there will be one Gou, if any, and rest of the space will be occupied by a stock room or the like. Gou is a strict no-no in the concrete jungle of the urban living. Many have established cow-catchers in their gates so that Gou doesn’t even roam near their dwelling places! We have left Gous insecure on the streets. Gou is systematically decimated from the face of Bharat through uncontrolled trafficking.
Amidst all this negativity, there is a whiff of fresh air in the form of activities aimed at Gouraksha by HH Srimajjagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati Mahaswamiji. For Sri RamachandrapuraMatha, GouRaksha started with Kamadugha project. It is a revolutionary project which inspired GouPrem in the minds of general public. Kamadugha aims to protect, preserve and propagate the knowledge about desi breeds of Gous. Many socially driven activities form part of this mega project. One of them is “Gou-Bandhu”!
Gou-Bandhu Yojana
In todays world, owing to changed circumstances many of us find it difficult to rear Gous in the vicinity of our homes. But what if there is a chance to rear our own Gou Matha – under our own guardianship – fed with our love and care – with regular contacts with her? What if your Gou Mata grows in comfortable surroundings in a well maintained Gou Shala?
Yes, there is an opportunity! That is called “Gou-Bandhu”. You can adapt a Gou Mata and can connect emotionally with her through this system.
The well equipped GouShala of Sri matha rears the Gou Mata adapted by you. It looks after the daily well-being of your Gou Mata with utmost care. That will be your Gou bred in the premises of GouShala of SriMatha. You can visit her at your leisure; your kids can play with her, celebrate the birthday of your Gou Mata or celebrate your birthday in her presence. Your pictures with your own Gou Mata can keep the experience fresh in memory!
Vatsa-Bandhu
Here you adapt a calf. Make the little one your family and do that a service of supporting the life of a Gou while supporting your own family. You can participate in the rearing and playful tantrums of the young one! Pamper her like little Krishna used to do!
Dhenu-Bandhu
This is an opportunity to adapt a well grown Gou Mata. The Gou Mata may open the door of your fortune. She might become ‘bhagyalakshmi’ of your homes!
Savatsa Gou-Bandhu
As the name suggests, this is where you can adapt a Gou Mata with its calf. She can be used for GouPuja on special occasions and indirectly you will be part of nitya GouPuja!
Nandi-Bandhu
Under Nandi-Bandhu, you can adapt a grown up and well-built Nandi (Bull). These are very attractive are bulls which are used in religious ceremonies, yatras, breed preservation etc.
You can also donate a fixed sum annually to Gou Shala to adapt a Gou and emptionally bond with the adapted Gou. Names of those who adapt a Gou will be appropriately recognized.
