Save Draught affected Cows at MM Hills, Karnataka

The Malemahadeshwara Hills [MM Hills] in Chamarajnagar district of Karnataka state is the natural habitat for Hallikar, Baragur and Alambady breed of cows. It is estimated that about 1 lakh of Desi cows are grazing in this forest range. The farmers are totally dependent on the natural grass grown in this forest. 3 years back Karnataka Forest Department has started fencing the forest. Rain has dropped considerably in the last 4 years. The situation here is pathetic now. A large number of cattle are not getting grass in the locality and they are not allowed to go inside the forest. The farmers don’t have capacity to purchase even a bundle of dry grass. Large number of cows are starving to death. Government action in providing grass and water is totally ineffective inspite of multiple appeals.

Kamadugha mission under the guidance of Shree Shree Raghaveshwara Bharathi Mahaswamiji had conducted big awareness program here recently. Under Kamadugha we have started to provide dry grass to the cows in the area. The areca leaves, otherwise wasted in the areca farms from Coastal and Malnad region will be shredded as rough powder and can be fed to the cows. We are collecting the wasted areca leaves from areca leaf plate manufacturing units also. It is estimated that around 10 tons of such powder can be arranged in a week in the Areca plantation area which is sufficient to feed 1000 cows for 5 days. To powder the areca leaves we have to have 2 Shredding machines at the cost of Rs 50,000.00 each. This is a mobile unit. We can powder the leaves wherever the leaves are available. This machine can be used in the Goushalas also. Each truck load will be costing around Rs. 35,000.00.

We kindly request you to sponsor these grass loads, so that feeding of poor cows is facilitated from your Gouseva.
